Dora is dead.

So I got a note that Covenant is being attacked. Thick concrete walls, lots of turrets – no need to hurry, but I rushed to help (no fast travel), and when I reached the place all I had to do was finish off the single raider that was still alive, the others were already dead littering the ground around the wall. However, to my dismay, I found that the Covenant resident cat was dead, laying just outside the gate. Why did she go out? Did she try to defend the settlement? I hadn’t even noticed before that her name was Dora. And now she was dead. This touched me deeply. Also, this also reminded me how much cooler the game would be if it allowed renaming settlers and made them mortal when attacked by hostile npcs, so that I could actually care more about them.

Half of the Covenant turrets were blown up during the attack and you cannot rebuild them or clean them up, I guess their remains will be burning forever. Funny thing, I built a new turret and one of the remaining turrets attacked it, my turret returned fire and destroyed the Covenant one.

Covenant? You made friends with those Covenant wackos?

I slaughtered every last creep in that town.

Bunch of freaking creeps.

They were very friendly to me and even hailed me as a hero. I waltzed in, bought the unique shotgun from Penny, and waltzed back out. Haven’t been back.

This might be related to finishing the main story in a certain way.

I didn’t see the cat. I did, of course, see the named cat in Vault 81.

I don’t know that I would have much investment in settlers if they were nameable/mortal. They’re so incorrigibly stupid that I would probably name them all Dopey1, Dopey2, etc. Or maybe Gary1, Gary2, and so on. If they were killed, I would be a little annoyed because I’d have to loot them and throw them on a dead settler pile outside the compound. Now if Takahashi in Diamond City were killed, I would be inconsolable.

So you never found the underground brainwashing cells?

No no, I killed them all (and stacked all their bodies behind one of the houses, remember?), but the cat and deezer survived. The game is broken, because once you kill the residents and claim the settlement you cannot do anything with the existing beds and turrets, and all items are marked as red.
